Klaus Weber - The Big Giving
London's glowing this weekend. First out is the opening of Klaus Weber's show The Big Giving at the Festival Terrace, Southbank Centre, tomorrow Thursday at 6 pm. The title of the work, The Big Giving, refers to the native North American potlatch ceremony, in which the host's status increases the more he or she gives.
These images are from Klaus last show at Herald St (London) in 2006, and as you can see the volcanic-looking sculptures are giving and receiving, as the water gushes from one figure to another. AMAZING.

Jesper Just
Jesper Just sometimes reminds me of Ingmar Bergman with his elegant existentialism. His new ten-minute black-and-white piece A Vicious Undertow is on show at Perry Rubenstein Gallery (534 W, 24th St, NY), open til August 11.
For you who haven't experienced Jesper's talent yet, here's a teaser from his beautiful piece Something To Love, 2005.

Banks is back!
The master of minimalist form and transmissions of subcultural communities is back with a major solo exhibition that is on show at both Team Gallery and Gladstone Gallery in New York. This is the first time since 2002 that Banks Violette has done a solo show at a gallery in New York and I'm sure his new ghostly and theatrical platforms will exist long-afterwards in your memory. The show is up until August 17.
